I live to work... kinda - because I love what I do.

When I left university in 2004, I set myself a 5 year plan - motivational rather than anything else. A lot of hard work followed, and 'round about this time last year, I got to where I wanted to be at the end of 5 years (1.5 years to spare!).

I strongly believe in make yourself valuable very early on, and once you are "immovable" (using that very loosely), you can enjoy life to a greater degree.

But ofcourse - it all depends on your philosophy - live for now, or live forever?

I am still in the middle of my 5 year plan...almost exactly half way through and so far it is on track...but it nearly wasn't. I see my job as "business school" and this is important for me to remember. Last summer I got to a stage where all I was doing was working, 24-7 and slightly forgetting about life. I was subconciously letting go of my passions for a career path that long-term was not what I wanted rather than treating it as a stepping stone. I stopped and started blogging as a form to keep up with my passions as well as starting to do charity work.

So at the moment I work to live :-) But I am sure when I get to love what I do - I will also live to work!

I have tried recently to remove the question "What do you do?" from my standard ice-breaking repertoire because I find the discussion so distasteful. First, what I enjoy doing is typically what I work to pay for (baseball ticket, yes! arranging work meetings, no!). Second, it just gets to be boring. I'd much rather discuss something like hiking or sports with someone I've just met than what they do for a living.

SOoo, in summary, work to live.
